One of the cues my coach says is "relax the hands." This @liftinglife photo captures that cue perfectly. When the hands are too tense during the drive of the jerk, it causes a couple issues 1.) It slows the movement and inhibits your ability to get back under the bar 2.) When you tense your hands, you tend to tense the triceps as well. (At least it does for me) This causes the bar to go forward instead of straight overhead So, before initiating the jerk, try relaxing your hands and enjoy how much easier it is to let your body do the work

Sarah was featured on Episode 4 of Season 1 of the show Big Giant Swords. “Sword-maker Irish Mike creates a giant, Ancient Greek-style sword for the Strongest Woman in America: Olympic weightlifter Sarah Robles.” (source)

The bronze was soft enough to scratch easily during that demo scene, so Irish Mike made a second sword for Sarah.

Sarah was featured in the fourth episode of the “Science of the Summer Olympics: Engineering In Sports” series on NBC Learn:

“Sarah Robles and the Mechanics of Weightlifting: U.S. weightlifter Sarah Robles will rely on an athletic mix of strength, speed and timing to help create explosive power when she competes at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Robotics engineer Brian Zenowich compares Robles’ movements to those made by the WAM Arm, one of the world’s most advanced robotic arms. “Science of the Summer Olympics” is a 10-part video series produced in partnership with the National Science Foundation.”
